The times are changing, but are you keeping up with it?

The travel industry has changed drastically in the past year: it has brought us to the brink of utter demise, and also to a point of reflection around what’s important. According to an ABTA survey conducted in 2020, 49% of consumers who "consider sustainability credentials of their holiday provider as important or essential when choosing which company to book with" has more than doubled compared to a meager 20% in 2011.

be the change or get left in the dust

“Pivot” became the buzzword of 2020 as organizations did everything they could to survive. We have witnessed the majority of outbound operators pivot from sending people halfway around the world to see the spectacular sights, taste the local food and take in the local culture, to creating domestic and local experiences, only to find out it is a vastly different business model, involving tons of legwork. You may have already found that the US market is lacking the DMOs we’re used to overseas.

expert advice and collaborative opportunities

Devoted to sustainable tourism for over two decades, I turned my focus to local and domestic tourism long before Covid-19 decimated and changed our industry as we knew it: In 2018 I started Experiential Expeditions, and acquired a Masters Certificate in Adventure Tourism (which is built squarely on the pillars of sustainable tourism) the following year.

I find truth in the African proverb “If you want to go somewhere fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” and it would be my pleasure to share my industry knowledge, talk with you about how we can collaborate, or help you take the next step toward a more sustainable tourism business.
